RN SEC TAKES MASTERS SILVER
03/10/06
John Thacker the RN Judo Secretary achieved a silver at the British
Masters recently at High Wycombe. This is an outstanding
achievement, he now represented the Royal Navy during 4 separate
decades (70's/80's/90's and now 00's although there are rumours about
the 60's). Congratulation John and keep up the good work.
TRAINING CAMP DATES CHANGED

The dates of the Guernsey training camp have changed until next year.
It will take place in Jan/Feb, date is to be confirmed nearer to
Christmas. Ant further question please contact John Thacker.
PROPOSED TRAINING CAMP

been offered a training weekend in
Guernsey.
Leaving Friday 6th or 20th October and returning
on the Sunday. Anyone interested get back to me ASAP please with their
preferred date. KYU grades will be given priority but there are 10
places.

ROYAL
NAVY JUDO TOUR OF
USA AND
CANADA
13/09/06
A Royal
Navy Judo Team recently toured the USA and
Canada, training with several local Judo clubs and entering two
International competitions. After training in
Toronto and appearing on Canadian Breakfast TV the team moved to
Niagara
US Air force base joining the Army and Royal Air force teams.
After training in
Buffalo a British Forces team entered the AMCAN International
Tournament. The event is one of the major Judo tournaments in the
USA with over a thousand competitors. Individual gold medal were
won by LT
Mark Shaw HMS NORTHUMBERLAND and MNE Chris Sherrington 45 CDO and a
silver medal by Capt Orlando Rogers CTCRM. The British Forces team
became the event overall Senior Champions and the International
Champions.
The Navy team moved to Canada and after further visits to
local Judo clubs entered the Canadian Open Masters Tournament where
CPO John Thacker DNR, MNE Chris Sherrington 45 CDO, Capt Orlando
Rogers CTCRM became Canadian Open Champions. LT

HMS NORTHUMBERLAND, LAET Clement 848 Sqn silver medel winners, and
Capt Orlando
Rogers CTCRM a further bronze in the open.
On returning to the
UK, MNE Chris Sherrington was selected to represent
England at the Commonwealth Judo Tournament and became a double
Commonwealth Champion which following his victory in the British Open
firmly establishes his challenge for an Olympic Team place.

HMS CALLIOPE JUDO CLUB

A new service judo club has been started at HMS
CALLIOPE (RN Reserve Establishment) in Gateshead. The sessions
are being run by CPO Ian Clark and training times are 1730-1930 on
Wednesdays. The club has stirred a lot of interest with and
average attendance of 10 players per session. Any service
players who live in the area and wish to attend, please give Ian a
shout.
