This was probably the
strongest team for a number of years that the Navy could put together,
there are still a number of players that could not make it but this
was the best on the day.
RESULTS
RN V RAF
5 – 2
This was the best
result for some time against the RAF. CPO JEFFERS also produced an
outstanding performance against his opponent, he seemed to pull
something out of the bag, considering his age!! CPL NEW pulled off an
outstanding win over a nationally ranked player and of course CPO
Clark, who never really got going on this one, I put it down to stress
of the organising the event! We are also short of the lightweights!
RN V ARMY
3 – 4
It was expected this
could be our year against the Army but as is the norm events went
against us, it was unfortunate that MNE Sherrington was disqualified,
a decision, which I did comment on, but the result still stood. LAEM
Clement proved again how unfit he was again but next year!!!! (Joke!!) And
again an outstanding battle for CPO Jeffers. With yet another bye for
the U60, here is to next year as the Army are worried!

RN V ARMY
2 – 4
Quite a few Kyu grades
did not show up due to operational commitments, however a team was
produced that has a lot of positives for the future.
MNE EVES despite his
loss proved that he has quite a future, he is only an orange belt but
has big potential. LAEA WATSON has also come back from injury and is
beginning to get back to his best and OM CURTIS-DAWSON needs a lesson
in anger management but he does keep coming to these events, he only
came back on the Monday before the competition from Sea! OM FRADGELY, I believe
surprised his opposition, as the ARMY guy had no real answer to his
persistence. Overall to gain 2 wins and a draw against the ARMY was
exceptional and these gives us hope for the future, bring ‘em on next
year!
RN V RAF
2 – 4
The RAF have a very
strong team in this Team, two outstanding achievements was the
determination to do better from LAEA WATSON and LAEM RUSSELL, two
incredible wins against good players. Each of these players have
proved themselves over and over again, and their experience helps
others, both soon will be Dan grades.
LADIES TEAM
UNDER
63 PO BATES
UNDER
70 WTR GITTENS
OVER
70 DSA PARSONS
This was going to be
difficult for our girls as there is a shortage of these players in the
RN, there were also some girls who were unavailable, maybe we can work
towards next year and get these girls to come back.
RN V ARMY
1 – 3
They all fought well
and as this is her first real contest Jane Bates did exceptionally
well………. Until she lost! However her determination to compete means
she will be back and be a lot more improved, she has come away with
honours, 10 seconds worth of being famous.
RN V RAF
1 – 3
The only one to win
was Vicky Gittens, however the RAF girls were of seasoned
international blood and so or girls did well. I do feel that Parsons
was robbed however, the RAF girl landed on her back with the leg in
the air and Vicky lost!!!!
INDIVIDUALS
OVER 100
PLAYERS
1. BEDDINGTON 2.
SHERRINGTON
MEDALISTS
GOLD – MNE SHERRINGTON
SILVER – LWTR
BEDDINGTON
This was payback time
for MNE SHERRINGTON as he took on the ARMY guy who he was disqualified
against and showed the talent that he has by producing a superb throw
in the first minute and then comprehensively destroyed the rest of the
field, proving why he is in the British Team Squad. Another player who showed a talent for
grit and determination was WTR BEDDINGTON who came back from sea on the
CARDIFF and with hardly any training got a silver medal, he could be
better with more training, IF HE CAN THE TIME OFF!
UNDER 100
PLAYERS
1. FRADGELY 2.
CURTIS-DAWSON 3. SHAW
MEDALLISTS
GOLD – LT SHAW
SILVER – OM FRADGELY
Although both our
players in the heats were under par, not very fit and lacking match
fitness, they performed outstandingly and took the top two medals
comprehensively.
UNDER 90
PLAYERS
1. CLARK 2.
POWELL I 3. EVES
MEDALLISTS
BRONZE – CPO CLARK
CPO CLARK woke up now for his
weight group fights and got into the knock out but came up against a very
good ARMY player and was passed to the reparcharge where he got the
bronze medal. New guy on the block, or better older guy on the block
and a welcome return after 5 years in the wilderness was Ian Powell,
brother of the Team Manager, who took part and started to get himself
back in the routine and good asset to have for the future
UNDER 81
PLAYERS
1. CPL NEW (WITHDREW
INJURED) 2. LOM FALLOWS 3. AEM FERRIS
4. LWEA McGING 5. LAEA
WATSON
NO MEDALS WON
One made it through to
the knock out, LAEA WATSON, but unfortunately came unstuck in the first
round of the knock out stage. All the others hopefully gained
experience from taking part and could be an asset to the team for the
coming year.
UNDER 73
PLAYERS
1. LAEM CLEMENT
MEDALLISTS
SILVER – LAEM CLEMENT
LAEM CLEMENT still has the after
affects of his illness but at least we could see him coming back to
life again, and a year on from now should get him back up to the high
standard of Judo we saw previously. But he did lose against an
excellent ARMY player.
UNDER 66
PLAYERS
1. CPO JEFFERS
(INJURED) 2. LAEA RUSSELL 3. MEA SUMNER
MEDALLISTS
BRONZE – LAEM RUSSELL
Came up against stiff
opposition in this group but RUSSELL got through to the reparcharge to
get the BRONZE. Our one hope for the future is MEA SUMNER who has not
done any Judo for a year and was a British Cadet player before that,
showed good promise for the future and maybe in the under 60 kg as he
used to fight at 60kgs, will be interested to watch his development.
LADIES
U70
PLAYERS
1. WTR GITTINS
(WITHDRAWN) 2. DSA PARSONS 3. PO BATES
MEDALLISTS
SILVER – DSA PARSONS
This was payback time
for DSA PARSONS who took on her counterpart from the team competition
and she did it in style …in the first minute, excellent work by Vicky
and Jane, which has given them more experience to go forward.
OTHER PLAYERS
ATTENDING
1. CPO BOWEN (ILL)
2. LWTR GREEN (INJURED) 3. LT COL S BRUCE
4. AEA BROWN
5. WTR DAVEY
SUMMARY
To summarise the whole
squad produced something extraordinary this year compared to previous
years and looking through the team sheets there are players out there
who are the future Navy Judo Team.
Those others players
who for operational or personal reasons could not be with us this
year, there is next year to come and we need your support as you have
over this year which has been tremendous and it must continue so that
we can build another team that will be capable of, and it will be
sooner rather than later, winning Gold in all three Team competitions.
We still have a
problem with the lower weight groups in the men’s events if you know
any players in the under 60 KGs group call them up or press gang them,
the RNJA needs them and also we need more Ladies to take up the reigns
with Vicky and Jane so look out for them.
The website is now up
and running successfully but it still needs your input into it, with
up to date information on personal, events and even dits of special
importance to the RNJA and its members, just log onto:
www.rnjudo.com
IT IS YOUR WEBSITE
A hearty
congratulations must go out to LAEM JACK RUSSELL who during the
competition successfully got the points required to gain his Black
belt and about time as well!
And also to CPO CHRIS
BOWEN, who never took part but was officially awarded his Dan Grade
for his help and support of the RNJA over the years.
And finally thanks to
you the players, coaches, roadies, groupies and hangers on for all the
support you have given the RNJA and its clubs, please keep this up as
it is you who can make this happen, help as you have done before to
support and encourage new and old players to come into the training
sessions.
And a special thanks
goes out to AEA Brown and WTR Davey who helped to look after the VIP,
outstanding work guys thanks!!!!!!
Look forward to seeing
you all next year
